Cindy Sherman

Cindy Sherman was born in 1954 in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, and grew up in Huntington, Long Island. In 1976 she graduated from the State University College in Buffalo. Since 1977 she has lived and worked in New York City. 
At the age of only 23, Sherman attracted the attention of a large public overnight with her 69-part photo series Untitled Film Stills. The staging of mostly but not exclusively female role models has remained her pivotal focus to this day. Using costumes, masks and prostheses, Sherman questions, often ironically, the clichés, fears and abysses of our society.
