Eighteen

In Eighteen the artist duo continues the story of the girl in their film Eight. She is now a young woman, and has moved out of her parent’s house and stands at the threshold to adulthood. She once again celebrates her birthday with a cake and among friends. The jubilant party atmosphere is interspersed with moments of melancholy and flashbacks to her past. She has achieved much, but also experienced moments of defeat. Like Eight, Hubbard’s and Birchler’s new film is designed as a loop that has no chronological progression, thereby giving viewers room for interpretation and allowing them to make associations with their own childhood experiences.
