Made of wire and modelling clay and contorted into a grotesque pose, this skeleton was created for Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg’s film Turn into Me (2008). Turn into Me is one of a series of stop-motion films in which the Swedish artist duo uses clay figures to tell stories that are frightening but also humorous. To create stop-motion films, objects (often malleable sculptures) are adjusted in small steps, with an individual still photo taken after every minute adjustment. The photos are later strung together — not unlike the frames of motion picture film — to create the cinematic illusion of movement. In Turn into Me, Nathalie Djurberg & Hans Berg brings a woman’s skeleton to life in a macabre dance of death.
