From the 2010s onwards, Imi Knoebel created works that are characterized by a vibrant, almost biomorphic formal language. These include Figure Z.51 and Figure Z.67 from 2019, where the clearly recognizable brushstrokes reveal the artist’s free drawing gesture.
In this young series of paintings, Imi Knoebel continues exploring the possibilities of painting. He reduces the artwork to its essential elements, emphasizing the playful power of form and the expressive intensity of color.
