During the 1980s, Imi Knoebel created series of works that displayed a gestural, expressive style of painting. These include the Packpapierzeichnungen, created between 1983 and 1985. In this series the artist adheres to the artistic language of forms of previous works like the Drachenzeichnungen and the Entscheidungszeichnungen, but refrains from superimposing several pictorial layers on top of one another.
