During the 1980s, Imi Knoebel worked with acrylic and lacquer paints on superimposed transparencies, board, and glass. His expressive and painterly visual language, which is characteristic of these works, should be understood in purely formal aesthetic terms. The intention is not to express the artist’s inner self or to represent a continuation of postwar abstract styles such as Art Informel or Abstract Expressionism.
The same group of works also includes: Ohne Titel (1983).
